Pastor’s Annual Report ~ December 2, 2010 ~ Saint Paul’s UMC

As I have reviewed my beginnings with you I am reminded of the expectations, stresses and strains of pastoral transitions.  These first five months have been a time of getting acquainted, of listening and sharing, building understanding and trust.  Duane and I thank you for the parsonage preparations, your welcome and patience as we have gotten settled.

One of my favorite pieces of Scripture is "Without a vision, the people perish" (Proverbs 29:18a).  It is our responsibility as the Administrative Council/ Annual Charge Conference to be focused on God’s mission and share with the Community of Faith how we are going to accomplish God’s purpose in our context.  That is vision.  As the Staff Parish Relations Committee and I have discussed how best to assist St. Paul’s UMC to vision for the future I have been asked to help develop a plan of strategic priorities.  I believe it is important for every church to know where it is going and to have specific plans for getting there.

As I have moved among you, as families and individually, you have begun to share your stories and how you “belong” within the Community of Faith at Saint Paul’s UMC.  You have also shared your hopes, dreams and concerns for the corporate life of Saint Paul’s UMC.  Generally these hopes and dreams have emphasized:

With these as a guide I have identified seven core priorities: spiritual growth, teaching, training, communication, evangelism, outreach and fellowship.  In the coming months I will be asking for your assistance in bringing each of these priorities to life as we vision for what God has in store for us in the years to come.

St. Paul’s UMC is blessed with a wonderful staff and literally dozens of volunteers that make a successful church possible. Your sacrifice and service to the Lord is noted and fully appreciated.  As we look towards the future I pray that we boldly embrace our United Methodist identity in this time and place.  Thank you all for your continued support, your willingness… your faithfulness.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Marge
